Payback paint the wall

Posted: 3rd September 2014

On Monday a group from "Payback" community service have been and painted over some of the graffiti on the wall (which has saved our volunteers a job!). We are very grateful for this great work, and is certainly a step in the right direction for the wall, although much more still to do.

The volunteering group are already buzzing with ideas of ways to enhance the wall further, whether that's to simply paint plainly but smartly (i.e. more than just patching over), or some form of legal street art, or even an idea for a York 'guidebook on a wall'. There are over 200 panels, so perhaps 200 things to do in York?

Graffiti has been an increasing problem recently (there are theories about who is doing it too), so it would be great if we could engage with the offenders and get them interested in creating something much more creative, appealing and sustainable as the future for the wall. If you are interested in shaping what we could do with it, please join us!
